She takes the candle off the mantelpiece,
Every night around 8:30.
She puts it on the table and we sit,
Every night around 8:30.
She grabs the matches and I help her lite,
Every night around 8:30.
She watches the flame and thinks about you,
Every night around 8:30.
She wonders where you are and if you’re safe,
Every night around 8:30.
She crawls in my lap and has a little cry,
Every night around 8:30.
She blows out the flame and gets ready for bed,
Every night around 8:30.
She brushes her teeth and washes her face,
Every night around 8:30.
She gets into bed and I tuck her in,
Every night around 8:30.
She looks at me and says “I miss my mom”,
Every night around 8:30.
I hold her tight and safe and pray for you,
Every night around 8:30.
